Dressing for the Weather

Nasu Heisei-no-Mori is situated in the mountains at an altitude of around 1000 meters, and the weather is extremely changeable. Sudden, sharp drops in temperature are not uncommon, especially in the mornings and evenings. On windy days, people say that it feels 2 degrees cooler than the actual temperature.
Hiking in clothes that are not suitable for experiencing the outdoors can lead to injury or accident.
If you are planning a visit, we ask that you prepare by reviewing the following information before leaving home.

The pack holding your belongings should be something like a rucksack, which will allow you to keep both hands free.

* This list is just a rough guide. Bring outerwear and middle layers that you will be able to adjust to suit the weather on the day of your visit.
* Ideally, you should wear clothes that permit freedom of movement and that you don’t mind getting dirty.
* Wasps tend to be attracted to dark colors, so avoid black clothes.
* Wasp and hornets are also attracted to the scent of perfume, so you can avoid this by not wearing fragrance.

Nasu Heisei-no-Mori also offers rentals for visitors who do not have their own snowshoes.
■ Rent them at any time between 10:00 to 15:00.
■ The number of snowshoes is limited, so they will be first come, first served.
■ Available snowshoeing area is Nasu Heisei-no-Mori Forest Recreation Zone(Fureai no mori).
■ If it’s your first time, interpreters will help you with your snowshoes.
